So you want to run a promotion. Where do you start?

How do I run a promotion?

Ready to run a promotion, but not sure where to start? Deciding to invest money in advertising can be a big step. And if we’re talking Digital Marketing, then even picking a platform can be recipe for a headache.. There are heaps!

A few quick tips from my experience working with some of Australia’s biggest brands, and local ones too.

1. Choose your goal upfront

Clicks, impressions, CPM, reach, CPC… and these are just a few basics. Before you get bamboozled by a plethora of platform metrics, it’s a good idea to start simple.

2. Keep it simple

Grab a pen and paper and, maybe over a coffee, jot down the big business goals that come to mind. If you have a business plan or mission statement, you might already know. If you don’t, consider what the “big picture” goal for your business is this year.

Write this down, then read up on the metrics you’re choosing from so you can make an informed decision (e.g. “brand awareness”).

3. Have a go, learn and refine

Rather than getting stuck thinking and not doing, trying something that feels right (perhaps with a “testing budget”), can be a great way to gain confidence and get a little momentum going. Your competitors may now wait for you, so why not jump in ASAP and have a good go!

Test, learn, iterate and scale up to drive change!

If you just need a hand with strategy – or you’d rather have a virtual marketing team run things for you and report back – drop me a note and let’s work out a plan.
